NELC | Nurses for the U.S!

I am very proud of our accomplishments so far. We have over 25 nurses working hard on the website, plus the IT department and supporting staff. We are in the final stages of completing our NCLEX questions. We have over 2000 NCLEX questions that have been created and reviewed by a minimum of 4 nurses before going into the final process of revision. Our team has created this database to be unlike any other database I have come across in nursing. Not only are the rationales for each question very detailed, we are hyper-linking in medical definitions and drug information for each of the drugs listed. There will be two options for our clients to use our NCLEX question database. They can choose the randomized NCLEX test that has all the parameters of the actual NCLEX test or they can select NCLEX questions through 5 different categories. These categories enable our clients to focus on specific areas if they need to. The categories are Content area (Pharmacology, Maternity, etc.), Nursing process (Assessment, Evaluation, Etc.), Cognitive level (this is the cognitive level that the client has to use to answer the question), and finally the Categories (Health Promotion and Maintenance, etc.) and Sub Categories (Basic Care and Comfort, Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies, etc.). These features combine to give our clients more options than I have ever seen put together!

 

Well, like I stated before these newsletters are also designed to give you some information that may help on your journey to being a better nurse. It is in that spirit that I want to tell you a little positive news about immigration. Last week one of the Philippine government agencies stated that US immigration is opening up for nurses who want to work in the United States! I’m sure that some of you are much better experts than I in the field of immigration, but this is wonderful news for those who have been waiting! I also want to share some additional things about the US nursing shortage that is of benefit to foreign nurses. Many studies have been conducted in the US about the shortage of nurses. All of them give different time tables for when the shortage will reach its peak effect, but one thing is certain: the US needs and will continue to need foreign nurses to help supply this demand. The largest generation in the US population (the generation called the “Baby Boomers”) is getting ready to retire. This generation has put off retirement due to the economy, but as the economy continues to improve, they will continue with their plans. This has a double effect on increasing the number of nurses needed. First this generation will retire from nursing creating more vacant jobs. Second, as this generation gets older we will need to provide more medical services for them. One study I read stated that even if all of the current nursing schools in the United States continued to grow at a growth rate of 20% every year, we would still not be able to meet this demand. Very few nursing schools are able to handle a continuous growth rate that large for numerous reasons. One of these reasons is that nurse educators very rarely get paid a salary equal to that which they could earn practicing. Due to this there is a shortage of nursing instructors as well. All of these points add up to a huge benefit for foreign nurses. Not only will nursing continue to pay well in the United States, but the demand for nurses is going to continue to go up!
